Summary[edit]

Description
English: As seen in September 2020: the lawn in front of the office of the Buffalo chapter of the American Red Cross on Delaware Avenue is converted to a field of hundreds of miniature American flags, in commemoration of the recent 19th anniversary of the national tragedy. The Red Cross's local offices are housed in what was once the mansion belonging to Carolyn Jewett Tripp Clement (1861-1943), the widow of Stephen Merrell Clement (1859-1913), the former president of Marine Bank who died while the house was still under construction, and notable in her own right as an accomplished musician and philanthropist. Exemplary of the Tudor Revival style and a work of the prolific local firm of Green & Wicks, the Clement Mansion was completed in 1914 and is notable for its Onondaga limestone façade, a trio of two-story parapeted bay windows decorated with quatrefoil patterns, and an interesting ground-level balustrade in front of the façade featuring bluntly pointed Tudor Revival arches. Mrs. Clement donated the mansion to the Red Cross two years before her death.
