whole: the four images are positioned in the upper three-quarters. The title and text are separate and placed in the upper quarter and lower quarter, in white, held within blue insets. Further text is separate and placed in the centre left, in black. All set against a white background. image: the two upper images are a portrait of a man, in profile, sneezing without restriction, and a plate illustrating the bacteria released in his sneeze. The two lower images are a portrait of the same man, in profile again, sneezing into a handkerchief, and a plate illustrating the resultant lack of bacteria. text: THE BRITISH PUBLIC IS NOT TO BE SNEEZED AT TOP PLATE THERE ARE 19,000 colonies of living germs on this plate which was held 3 feet away from the sneezer photographed on the right. See the cloud of germ-laden droplets broadcast into the air by a careless sneeze. LOWER PLATE ONLY ONE colony of germs got past when the sneezer used his handkerchief. This poster was scanned and released by the Imperial War Museum on the IWM Non Commercial Licence. The artwork was created by a commissioned military artist during their active service duties in the First World War. In the UK this these became controlled under the Crown Copyright provisions and so faithful reproductions may be reused under that licence, which is considered expired after 50 years.
