t I shall kiss is he;take him and hold him fast. Then he came to Jesus, and said, Master, Master, and kissed him. Jesus said to him, Judas, dost thou betray me with a kiss? Then the men laid their hands on Jesus and took him. When the apostles sawthem take Jesus, they said to him, Lord, shall we fight them with the sword? And Peter, having a sword, drew it and struck a servant of the high priest andcut off his ear. But Jesus said, Put thy sword back again into the sheath.Might I not now pray to my Father that he should send me quickly manythousands of angels to fight for me and save me from death? Then all his apostles, being afraid, left him and fled. 272

Pilate, therefore, took Jesus andscourged him. Then the soldiers, who were to put him to death, led him into a room inthe governors palace, and called together the whole band of soldiers to whichthey belonged. There they took off his outer garment, and to mock him, theyput on him a purple robe: And when
