But the eldest brother spoke to the king, saying,We will not eat of it, for we would rather die than disobey the laws of God.Then the king, in great anger, commanded that his tongue should be cut out,and parts of his feet and hands cut off, and afterward that he should be burnedslowly over a fire as long as there was any life in him. As soon as he was dead,the other brothers were asked whether they would obey the king; and as theyrefused, were one by one tortured and put to death, and their mother also slain. 208
