Histhoughts afterwards reverted to it constantly; therehe jjrepared his tomb, and thither in his extreme oldage he returned to die. Now, however, he journeyed south and dweltamong the Philistines, forming an alliance with theirking, Abimelech of Gerar, and setting up his tentsfirst at Gerar and afterward at Beersheba, the mostsouthern town of Palestine. Here he found pasturefor his herds upon the bare lands which stretch outinto the southern wilderness toward Egypt.
