The Israel-ites had vast herds of oxen and sheep; and to remind themthat these were all given by God, that the cattle belongedreally to Him, not to them, they were called on to surrendermany of the beasts back into Gods hand. That is theybrought their offerings to the tabernacle, where the sons ofLevi received the animals and slew them. Sometimesthe flesh was burned, sometimes it was given to the priests,sometimes to the poor. There were sacrifices of all kinds,not only of beasts, but of birds, of meal, of oil, and of per-fumes. The first fruits of the harvest were to be sac-rificed to God; and there was to be salt with every sacrifice.Also there were many varied occasions for the sacrifices,feast offerings, peace offerings, free offerings, gifts madefor sins, for vows, and many others. There must havebeen a constant stream of worshippers flowing toward thetabernacle iu those days of joy. 11-66
