eronomy tells of the last month ofthe life of Moses, With his people gatheredaround him there in the valley of the Jordan, everything was in readiness for the triumphal entry intoPalestine. But God had warned Moses that because ofthe one time when he had failed in faith, he should him-self be shut out from the promised land. Hence Mosesnow prepared himself for death. He gave his last days to preaching to his people. Inthis final month he delivered to them three great addresses, marvels of oratory, recorded in this remarkable book ofDeuteronomy, though perhaps in their present form theywere not written down until centuries after Moses death. In these orations Moses reminded the new generation, which had grown up around him, of all that God had donefor them and for their fathers, in bringing them out fromEgypt. He traced the marvelous history of the pastforty years, he reviewed the commandments he had giventhem, and he passionately exhorted them to continueforever in obedience to God. 11-93

Joshua knelt before Moses, and was solemnly blessedby him in presence of all the people. After this impressiveceremony was over, God Himself summoned Joshua toenter into the tabernacle side by side with Moses.
