THIS refusal of the Israelites to advance from Kadeshinto the promised land, filled full the cup of Gods ^anger against them. He declared that not oneman among them, save only Joshua and Caleb, shouldever enter that Promised Land. For forty days hadthe Israelites hesitated while their spies explored Palestine;now for forty years should they wander in the wilderness.Every grown man who had resisted the will of God, shouldperish there; only their children, whom in their fear theyhad cried out would perish, those little children should besaved, and should enter Palestine at last. Even in this matter the stubborn Israelites thought tomatch themselves against God. Whereas before they hadfeared to advance, now on hearing His decision they in-sisted on going forward from Kadesh. Moses forbadethem, the fiery cloud went not
