Schirmers picture of the scene suggests a vague-ness and grandeur of space and mystery well in keep-ing with the burial of him who had been the chieffriend of God. Abraham is the strongest and mostpowerfully outlined figure in the book of Genesis, thevigorous, loyal, resolute man, clear of brain, pure ofheart and steadfast of will. Around him are groupedother striking types. Sarah the capable, self-assert-ive princess, Eliezer the devoted servant, Isaacthe obedient son, Lot the man well-meaning but notover-wise.
