This difference of opinion regarding the first handlmgof the print is largely a matter of individual taste and habitand a worker of long experience and skill will undoubtedlyfind both methods of equal efiiciency according to circum-stances. I am seriously opposed, however, to the hopping i6 action to secure high Hghts. It may be that 1 lack a certaindelicate technique with the brush in hopping but the factremains, nevertheless, that I have seldom, if ever, been able toget the same fine quality in the high lights by tliat method as Ihave when these Hghts have been retained by reason of niceexposure and a subsequent normal and straight pigmenting. It is always best to begin work with a hard ink, for if theexposure has been fairly timed it is astonishing how work-able even the hardest ink will prove.
