Gates ap-pears to have been unwilling to let any of theforces descend from their stiong position ; but thefiery Arnold urged and implored, until he got per-mission to take Morgans riflemen and Dearbornsinfantry, and go forth to attack the enemy. Ar-nolds advance, under Morgan, first fell upon Bur-goynes advance, at Freemans Farm, and checkedits progress. Fraser then, hearing the musketry,turned eastward to the rescue, while Arnold, mov-ing upon Frasers left, sought to cut him asunderfrom Burgoyne.
