| Description |
English: The 4th pitch of the Graig Ddu inclined plane from Lefel Dwr Oer Gallt Ddu was an open cast quarry until the 1920s. It was the last of the Blaenau quarries to ship its produce out through the Dwyryd wharves. In 1865 a 4 pitch inclined plane was built to link the quarry with the main line railway at Blaenau Ffestiniog.As part of the scheme a complex of three water powered mills were built at Lefel Dwr Oer at the bottom of No 4 pitch. This photo is taken from the ruins of the mills across the water ponds - Llynnau Dwr Oer - and up along the No 4 incline pitch. |
