Summary[edit]

Description
English: Terraced Houses at Staithes. Staithes is a seaside village in North Yorkshire. Formerly a busy fishing port, fishing has largely disappeared and this picturesque village is now largely a tourist destination. James Cook - later Captain Cook - worked here (1745-6) as a grocer's apprentice before moving to Whitby. In former times artists came to Staithes to capture its beauty and the vibrancy of the coastline, and to create their own artist commune. These "Northern Impressionists" included renowned artists such as Edward E. Anderson, Joseph R. Bagshawe, Thomas Barrett, James W. Booth and Dame Laura Knight.
