Règne de Ptolémée IV, vers 221-205 avant J.-C. Grès H. 380 ; l. 360 ; P. 300 cm Don de l'Institut d'archéologie orientale en 1938 Inv. 1939-29 Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon. A l'origine, cette porte monumentale marquait une entrée du principal sanctuaire de Médamoud. Sur les montants de la façade, le décor symétrique et complémentaire figure la scène classique du roi s'adressant à la divinité avant de pénétrer dans le temple. A gauche, coiffé de la couronne rouge de Basse-Egypte, Ptolémée IV Philopator officie pour le Nord ; à droite, coiffé de la couronne blanche de Haute-Egypte et surmonté de la déesse-vautour Nekhbet, il répète son geste pour le Sud. Sobrement vêtu d'un pagne à queue cérémonielle, le pharaon tient la massue et la canne d'apparat dans une main. L'autre bras tendu dans le geste du discours, il s'avance vers l'intérieur de la porte à la rencontre du dieu local, le grand taureau sacré Boukhis (associé à Montou à la Basse Époque). Sous ses pieds court la dédicace de la porte. Le passage est simplement décoré de frises de signes monumentaux symbolisant la longévité du règne. Au revers, Ptolémée IV est accueilli dans le temple par les dieux tutélaires de Médamoud. Il est représenté, à droite, coiffé du pschent, recevant d'Amon le glaive à tête de bélier ; le montant gauche disparu devait se référer à Montou. |
