Description
Deutsch: Gestell für Körperstrafen in einem Malaysischen Gefängnis.
  • Aufnahmeort: das seit 1997 für die Öffentlichkeit zugängliche ehemalige Gefängnis "Pudu Prison" in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in dem neben Hinrichtungen auch Körperstrafen (als Strafe für bestimmte Übertretungen der Gefängnisregeln) durchgeführt wurden. Der Delinquent ist dabei nackt bis auf eine Art kurze Hose, die die Nieren- und Genitalregion schützt, aber das Gesäß unbedeckt lässt, und wird stehend mit Handgelenken, Beinen und der Taille an das abgebildete Gestell gebunden. Die Züchtigung erfolgt mit einem Rohrstock aus Rattan auf das Gesäß (nicht auf den Rücken). Dabei anwesend sind neben dem "Zuchtmeister" und weiteren Gefängnisaufsehern auch ein Arzt, der die Züchtigung gegebenenfalls abbrechen kann. Im Pudu-Prison-Museum wird ein Videofilm gezeigt, der bei einer echten solchen Züchtigung mitgeschnitten wurde. Er soll (auch für die zusehenden Kinder) als Abschreckung wirken. In Malaysia gibt es die Züchtigungsstrafe im Gesetz nur für Männer und männliche Jugendliche (bei Minderjährigen mit einem etwas dünneren Rohrstock und weniger Schläge).
  • Der Ausdruck "TEMPAT SEBAT ROTAN" steht auf einem Schild, das heute Museumsbesuchern den Weg zum Züchtigungsraum weist. Die englische Übersetzung lautet "caning area" (deutsch: Züchtigungsbereich).
