Summary[edit]

Description
English: Early 20th century Teke (Bateke in English) pottery from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Teke peoples made vessels to be used in special ceremonies or that become part of an assemblage of objects placed in a shrine. The long neck, sloping shoulders and cone-shaped body on a pedestal is another example of Teke pottery that was probably created at the turn of the century for outside visitors.
