Description
English: The tanuki was made famous in North America by Mario Brothers 3. We all assumed tanuki was a raccoon due to the tail. Not so, the tanuki is a real animal in the dog family with a ringed tail. In Japan it it the subject of many tales of magic and mischief and is somewhat of a cultural icon.
