Summary[edit]

Description

I think it is a Tatra 87 second series. If you know more about this kind of car, which I found today in Berlin, please leave a comment. Davydutchy was so kind to leave a long and informative comment which I cite: The Tatra T87 was built from 1936 (presentation of the prototype) thru 1950, a total of 3,022 or 3,056 - depending on your sources. This is a series II, generally known as the post-war 87, recognisable by the streamlined headlights (the series I had headlights sticking out), different grill and bumpers. Series II was built from 1947; technically it is identical to series I. The car has an air cooled rear DOHC V8 engine and a Y shaped backbone chassis. Most striking is the dorsal fin! There are 12 T87s in Germany and 2 in Holland; all in all the number of still existing cars is figured to be below 100 - so you took a rare shot indeed. Some museums that own one: the Schlumpf collection (Bugatti Museum) in Mulhouse (F), the Technical Museum in Prague (CZ), the Deutsches Museum in Munich (D), the Lane Motor Museum in Nashville TN (USA), the Verkehrsmuseum in Lucerne (CH) and the Tatra Museum in Koprivnice. The T87 is considered Hans Ledwinka's finest achievement. To see the rear of the 87 with its distinctive dorsal fin, see here.
