The Tanana River in central and eastern Alaska is an almost 600 mile long, northwest-flowing tributary of the Yukon River. The photo depicts a highly braided stream with numerous intertwined channels and mid-river sediment bars. The floodplain on the left has some meandering streams.

Locality: Tanana River, near the town of Salcha, ~53 air-kilometers south-southeast of Fairbanks, east-central Alaska, USA (64° 28' 14.15" North latitude, 147° 01’ 01.30" West longitude)
