Go back and do my command.Throw the sword, and spare not. But again Sir Bedivere could not bring him-self to throw the sword away. Instead, he againhid the sword, and returned to the King to tellhim he had seen nothing but the waves and thegloom. Traitor! cried the King, twice you havedeceived me. If you do not my bidding thistime, I will slay you, wounded as I am. Then Sir Bedivere was ashamed, and takingthe sword, he swung it back and fore, and, withthe impulse thus gathered, it cut its way throughthe gloom to the middle of the water. As it flew through the air, a hand and armrose from the waves, and caught it by the hilt.
