| Description |
On 23rd July 1946, Warwick HG136 was being delivered from Thornaby to Brackla, Fife, when it flew off course and crashed 1 mile to the west of the summit of The Cheviot in Northumberland. Previously operated by 280sqn which had disbanded the previous month, HG136 was actually on its intended last flight as it was due to by scrapped at Brackla. The three crew, F/L K.F Wyeth, F/O Cody and F/O Chadd, were all sadly killed in the crash. Due to the location, a considerable amount of wreckage remained on site, although much has disappeared over recent years. This tailplane and rear fuselage section is on display in the Bamburgh Castle Aviation Artefacts Museum, Bamburgh Castle, Northumberland, UK. 12th September 2017 |
