Summary[edit]
DescriptionTR & Rondon River of Doubt in Canoe 1913.jpg |
English: Theodore Roosevelt, 26th US President, seen here wearing a sun helmet, traveled in 1913 to the Amazonian rain forest to trace the River of Doubt later named the Rio Roosevelt. He is seated in the expedition's largest and most reliable dugout canoe. That said, the craft was no match for the river's wild waters and several craft were destroyed by rapids and waterfalls and had to be replaced in the jungle, with only four surviving. TR almost died from the combined effects of malaria and a severe infection.
