Description
English: Distorted panorama photo taken at sunset in early April 2021, showing the view from Tjønneberget, a hill on the island of Hvasser on the west side of the Oslo Fjord, Norway.

From the top at 42 meters there is a great view in all directions: southeast towards Færder lighthouse and Skagerak, west towards the neighboring island of Tjøme, and north and east towards the rest of the Hvasser island. The ridge is hilly with smooth slopes of bare rock with boulders and scattered vegetation.

The hill is part of a hiking area open to the public. At the top, the Norwegian Armed Forces's old coastal radar station is now a overnight cabin affiliated with the Norwegian Tourist Association. There are also a smaller radar antenna and ruins from the German fortifications build as part of the German Festung Norwegen and the nearby Torås gun battery during World War 2.

  • Tjønneberget er en kolle på sørvestspissen av øya Hvasser i Færder kommune. Høyden er del av et turområde på vestsida av Oslofjorden. Toppen ligger på 42 meter over havet. Høydedraget er kupert og består av nakent svaberg med spredt, lav kystvegetasjon. Stedet var militær kystradarstasjon fram til 2003. På stedet er det i dag overnattingshytte tilknyttet Den Norske Turistforening (DNT), ruiner etter tyske forsvarsstillinger fra andre verdenskrig og en mindre kystradar.
  • Fra Tjønneberget er det vid utsikt til turterrenget, skjærgården, bebyggelsen, øyene og omlandet rundt. Bildet viser blant annet:
    • Friluftsområder sør på Hvasser (til venstre) med Storemyr-Fagerbakken og Sønstegård lengst til venstre i bildet
    • Pirane naturreservat på den flate stranda rett øst for kollen i randsonen for Færder Nasjonalpark
    • Store Færder og Færder fyr mot Skagerak i sørøst
    • Øyene Kløvningen og Uleholmen i havet like sør
    • Verdens Ende sør på naboøya Tjøme
    • Kjørevei opp til anlegget
    • Den Norske Turistforenings overnattingshytte i bolighuset etter Forsvarets radarstasjon
    • Kystverkets radar som har erstattet en større, bemannet radar som tidligere var landemerke på høyden
    • Ruiner fra tyskernes kystforsvarsanlegg under krigen
    • Svaberg, holmer, knauser og kløfter skurt i retningen nord-sør av isens bevegelser under siste istid, med svakt skrånende helninger mot nord og bratte fall mot sør
    • Kystvegetasjon med løvtrær med bare kvister en kjølig vår
