Summary[edit]

Description
English: Cascade of immuno-molecular events hypothesized to lead to the modulation of immune response in Trichuris suis-infected humans. Molecules linked to the T-cell receptor and chemokine signalling pathways could be involved in the stimulation of the Th2-type immune response, which, in turn, stimulates the expansion of populations of pro-inflammatory cells and cytokines. T. suis homologues of secreted leukocyte protease inhibitors (SLPIs) could inhibit hyper-responsiveness of the immune system by down-regulating the activity of Th2-type cells.
