Summary
[edit]DescriptionSwedish Bolinder canal boat engine.jpg |
English: Bolinder canal boat engine at the Canal Museum on the Grand Union Canal, Stoke Bruerne, Northamptonshire, UK. According to the museum, the Bolinder two-stroke engine was the most successful and prolific engines fitted to narrow boats between about 1910 and 1950. Not needing a boiler they allowed more space for cargo and did not need a separate engine man compared to coal fired steam boilers. Many are still working on restored canal boats. Note: the chimney has been reduced in height. |
