Summary[edit]

Description
English: Swarkestone Causeway Swarkestone Causeway is a grade-1 listed structure dating from the 13th century. It was built to cross marshy ground in the flood plain of the River Trent. The name Trent is thought to mean "trespasser", i.e. river liable to flood. The land still floods regularly in bad weather. The river itself is crossed by an 18th century hump-backed bridge, built when this section of the river was navigable.
