Summary[edit]
| Description |
English: The bridge which connects Osogbo with Oke-Osun axis, passing through the beautiful Sacred shrine of the flamboyant Yeye Osun. The bridge is about 50 metres to the Osun-Osogbo grove inside which the annual Osun-Osogbo festival is held in honor of the covenant between the Ataoja and the river Goddess, the Grove became a World Heritage Site in 2005. This bridge was Constructed in 1954 by the colonial administration to ease transportation from the town of Osogbo to Farm Settlements outside the town. The bridge also gives a serene view of the Osun River and the Grove that surrounds the Shrine with its beautiful Baboon trees and lush tropical vegetation. It's always a Divine feeling crossing the bridge. However, the beautiful bridge is a death trap, a mishap waiting to happen because of the very poor state it is in presently, for a heritage Site that pulls crowd and generates funds in tourism for Nigeria, the bridge shouldn't be left to degenerate further. No progress as been achieved towards conserving, managing and protection of the Grove by either UNESCO or the Nigerian Government. |
