Sunset Crater volcano at sunset

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Sunset Crater is a cinder cone located within the Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument (created by President Herbert Hoover to protect the crater in 1930), which is outside of Flagstaff, Arizona and is part of the San Francisco Volcanic Field in the Coconino National Forest. This now dormant volcano is said to have erupted around A.D. 1085, which caused the local Native peoples to temporarily abandon their settlements.
