Title
English: Streetcar signal at First Avenue and Pike Streets, Seattle, circa 1918
Description
English:

Cables support and power a streetcar signal in the middle of the intersection of First and Pike, in downtown Seattle. The signal itself is somewhat camouflaged against the facade of the Corner Market, at Pike Place. It appears to operate by the rotation of triangular panels that indicate which streetcar should stop and which should proceed. Streetcar tracks can be seen in the brick pavement. A large billboard calls for men to "Heed Your Country's Need" and join the Army. Two additional billboards advertise Frye's meat products and Rainier Beer.

Signs in image: Three Girls Bakery; Jersey Butter Store; Allen's Grocery; Seattle Hardware Co.; Art Floral Co.; Seattle Tea & Coffee; Sanitary Public Market; Pueblo Apts.
