English: Stream valley [This is one of a series of images showing the landscape encountered on a journey between Murroch Burn and the ruins of Auchenreoch, including several tributaries of the burn.]
This is the valley of the fifteenth, and last, of the tributary streams of the Murroch Burn that I crossed on the way. The course of this stream is shown on the 1:50000 map, and its valley is wide, with gently-sloping sides. Note, in the foreground, a wall-like feature that runs from left to right across this shallow valley; it dips in the middle, where a puddle is visible. Although there are several field dykes in this area, the linear feature shown in this photograph is not one of them. Instead, it is a dyke in the geological sense, a wall-like intrusion of igneous rock. Several such dykes cross Auchenreoch Muir, oriented SW-NE. Where they cross the deeper parts of the glens, close to the Murroch Burn, the results can be more impressive; see 1942415. Previous: 1063115. Next: 1063139. |
