Summary[edit]

Description

A small and unassuming building, this PWSS sits on the slopes of Garry Hill, above Finnarts Bay and controlled shipping in and out of Loch Ryan. During the Second World War, Cairnryan was designated as a secondary deep water port on the west coast in the event that the Clyde or Liverpool were put out of action.

The two storey brick and concrete building retains signs of a number of lashing points and bases for what I can assume would have been a semaphore flag pole and radio antennas. One of the steel shutters that would have covered the lower window opening remains in good condition inside the ground floor. There are also four loopholes in the walls, each one covering each direction of approach to the building.
