| Description |
English: Flagstar Strand Theatre, 12 North Saginaw Street, Pontiac, Michigan, December 2020. Built in 1921 from a design by architects Charles Howard Crane and Leo John Heenan, the majestic Adamesque façade contrasts a red brick substrate with cut stone detailing of multitudinous varieties: reliefs in motifs of sunbursts, festoons, urns, and stringed instruments; stylized fluted pilaster strips; engaged balustrades above the marquee and at the roofline. The building operated as a movie house through the mid-1980s and then briefly again in the 1990s as home stage to a local theatre troupe, but was vacant from then until its reopening in 2017 as a performing arts center (and, as can be seen from the sign on the marquee, also worship space for a local church). |
