Summary[edit]

Description Stern of Zeppelin airship, most likely LZ-4, on Lake Constance outside Manzell, taken on 4 August 1908, around 6 a.m. LZ-3 had been bought by the German army and redesignated Z1, and the army also showed interest in buying LZ-4 (and presumably redesignate it Z2), but requested a demonstration flight. LZ-4 was launched at 6:22 a.m. on 4 August 1908 from the floating hangar on Lake Constance. After an emergency landing near Stuttgart due to engine failure, the airship was ripped off its mooring and got caught in a tree, where it immediately caught fire and was destroyed in the early morning of 5 August.
