Summary[edit]

Description
English: Steel Wherry sails, Whitlingham Broad. On the south bank of Whitlingham Great Broad these steel wherry sails are accompanied by a poem by local naturalist Ted Ellis : "Like a heap of bones where the elephants die, somewhere the wherryman's quants must lie. Where marsh mists creep o'er Hobrough's Yard, old wherry masters post the guard. For the hulks of ships and the hulks of men are wont to drift together again." (a quant is a pole used for propelling a wherry when winds drop, Hobrough's yard is now 164616)
