Segura ou pouco preocupante (LC ou LR/lc): categoria de risco mais baixo. Não qualificável para uma categoria de maior risco. Taxones abundantes e amplamente distribuídos são incluídos nesta categoria.
Quase ameaçada (NT ou LR/nt): perto de ser classificada ou provavelmente qualificável para ser incluída numa das categorias de ameaça num futuro próximo.
Não é actualmente um categoria utilizada na Lista Vermelha Dependente de medidas de conservação (LR/cd): realce para um continuado programa de conservação, específico para um determinado taxon ou habitat. A cessação desse programa poderá levar a que o taxon qualifique para uma das categorias de ameaça listadas abaixo, num período de cinco anos.

Não avaliada (NE): Não foi ainda avaliada em função dos critérios.
Possivelmente extinta (PE): uma categoria dada pela BirdLife International. Subcategoria de Em perigo crítico (CR).
Possivelmente extinta na natureza (PEW): termo usado na Lista Vermelha da IUCN. Subcategoria de Em perigo crítico (CR).
Extinct (EX): não existe dúvida razoável que o último indivíduo morreu.
