Description

Donated in 1854, from Venise (Italy) Altes Museum Berlin Black Marble, 130 - 140 AD

Antinous was Emperor Hadrian's young beloved; he drowned in the Nile during a journey to Egypt in 130 AD. Deified by the Emperor to become the hero Antinous, portrait statues of him were set up posthumously throughout the empire.
