DescriptionStation House, Stutton.jpg |
English: Former Station House, Stutton The railway line from Church Fenton to Harrogate was constructed between 1845 and 1848 by the North Midland Railway Company which later became the North Eastern Railway. A station and goods yard was built at Stutton to designs by George Townsend Andrews (1805-1855). The line opened between Church Fenton and Spofforth (including Stutton) on 10th August 1847 and the extension to Harrogate on 20th July 1848. Stutton was never commercially successful and closed to passengers on 30th June 1905 although railway staff continued to occupy the building until the 1960s, operating the signal box and the Weeding Gate level crossing. The line was closed to passengers on 4th January 1964 and to goods traffic on 2nd April 1966. The station building at Stutton has since been converted into private housing. |
