Description

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade have declassified over 100 files as part of their declassification programme. Included in the release is a file in relation to enacting the various clauses of the Treaty of Versailles. Shown here is a statement from 1928, by New Zealand Prime Minister Joseph Coates, confirming New Zealand would not endorse section 18 of annex II of the Treaty of Versailles. The clause allowed for governments to seize the property and funds of German nationals should Germany default on reparations. The government of Australia also did not enact the same clause.
