Summary[edit]

Description
English: Staphylococcus aureus is a Gram-positive bacterium known for its distinctive colony morphology on blood agar. When growing on blood agar, Staphylococcus aureus colonies typically display the following characteristics: Size-Staphylococcus aureus colonies can vary in size, but they are often medium-sized. They are larger than many other bacterial colonies commonly found on blood agar.Shape- The colonies are round and convex, often with a raised or slightly elevated appearance. They do not typically appear flat or wrinkled. Color- Staphylococcus aureus colonies on blood agar have a characteristic golden-yellow to golden-orange color. This coloration is often described as "buttery" or "creamy." Opacity- These colonies are opaque, meaning they are not transparent and do not allow light to pass through. Hemolysis-Staphylococcus aureus is known for its ability to exhibit beta-hemolysis on blood agar. This means that the bacterium produces hemolysins that completely lyse (break down) red blood cells in the agar around the colony. As a result, there is a clear zone or "halo" surrounding the colony due to the lysis of red blood cells. Texture- Staphylococcus aureus colonies have a smooth and glistening appearance. They do not typically exhibit rough or roughened textures.
