In the top photo we can see Stanmore station, as it was originally called, which was opened on 18th December 1890. It was opened by the London and North Western Railway (LNWR) on Gordon Avenue as the terminus on the small branch line from Harrow & Wealdstone station. The station was renamed Stanmore Village on 25th September 1950. There was no station between Harrow & Wealdstone and Stanmore until one was opened at Belmont on 12th September 1932 by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS).

The station was closed to passengers on 15th September 1952 although this end of the branch line remained open for freight traffic until 6th July 1964. The bottom photo shows us that the building has since been converted for residential use and is almost unrecognisable. In September 1975 a plaque with the inscription 'Harrow & Stanmore Railway, 1890 - 1964' was fixed to the front of the building.
