Description
Nederlands: Dit levensgrote standbeeld uit polyester van de Letterhoutemse champetter Raymond Van Den Berghe (1902 - 1986) werd in 1978 geplaatst ter gelegenheid van het 'Jaar van het Dorp'. Het stelt de champetter voor in zijn vroegere hoedanigheid, toen hij de openbare aankondigingen moest afroepen (1936-1959) op de 'roepsteen'. Het is een zogenaamde 'belleman'. In kleine dorpen hanteerde de veldwachter immers na de hoogmis een handbel waarmee hij de aandacht van het publiek wilde vestigen op het nieuws dat hij zou uitroepen.
Het standbeeld staat bij de Heilige Kruisverheffingskerk - Letterhoutemdorp - Letterhoutem - Sint-Lievens-Houtem - Oost-Vlaanderen - België.
Het beeld is van de hand van Antoon De Brauwer (1940-2008) uit Ursel (Aalter).
