Description

Stamp of the United Arab Emirates – Emirate Fujeira; 1972; commemorative stamp to the issue "Children’s Day 1972 – Paintings" (The (Arab) Children’s Day 1972 = ); issue of 6 stamps + 1 block à 1 stamp; The depicted stamp is UAE-FU Michel No.: 859A ("B" = imperforate) from 1972 and shows the painting "Miss Bowles" by Joshua Reynolds (1723-1792). Reynolds has created this painting in 1775 in the style of the portrait paintery of the 18th century.; Joshua reynolds has created this painting in 1775 and it shows Miss Jane Bowles, the oldest daughter of the British landowner Oldfield Bowles (1739-1810) in North Aston in the county Oxfordshire (England).; This painting is contemporary possession of the "Wallace Collection" in London (the former "Sir Richard Wallace and Lady Wallace") and its were made several copies (any very good) from this painting since.; Unfortunately this stamp was postmarked by CTO.
Note:
The Emirate "Fujeira" was 1892-1971 British and one of the so-called "Trucial States" in Southeast Arabia. This emirate published own stamps in 1964-1972, however the most of his stamps were "...gaudy topical stamps for sale to collectors". The depicted stamp in one of these.
