Description

Stamp of the United Arab Emirates – Emirate Ajman - Manama; 1968; commemorative stamp to the issue "Paintings with dogs" ; issue with a se-tenant of all stamps of this issue; The depicted stamp is UAE-MA Michel No.: 435A ("B" = imperforate) from 1968 and shows the painting "Miss Bowles" by Joshua Reynolds (1723-1792) although it is wrongly declared under the title "Miss Rowles and her dog" (probably a reading error at the responsives).; Joshua Reynolds has created this painting in 1775 in the style of the portrait paintery of the 18th century and it shows Miss Jane Bowles, the oldest daughter of the British landowner Oldfield Bowles (1739-1810) in North Aston in the county Oxfordshire (England).; This painting is contemorary possession of the "Wallace Collection" in London and it were made several copies (any very good) from this painting since.; Unfortunately this stamp was postmarked by CTO.

Note:

"Manama" was a little enclave of the Emirate "Ajman" ("Adschman"), surrounded by the territories of the Emirates "Fujeira" and "Sharjah". The territory was 1892-1971 British and belonged with to the so-called "Trucial States" of the British in Southeast Arabia. This Emirate published own stamps in 1963-1972, a first post office for the sale of own stamps was opened in Manama on , although the first stamps were issued firstly on . However "...These stamps were mainly aimed at collectors and for some issues it is not known whether they were ever used by post.". Alone for the time from 5 June 1966 until 31 July 1972
