Summary[edit]
DescriptionSt Patrick's All-for-Ireland Band, Castletownbere, County Cork, Ireland - 1910.jpg |
English: The St. Patrick's All-for-Ireland Band, a Fife and Drum band parading through Castletownbere, County Cork, Ireland, in 1910. In the early part of the last century many towns in Munster had a tradition of marching bands, a very old tradition in Castetownbere. Some towns boasted two rival bands, one composed of supporters of the O'Brienite party's All-for-Ireland League, the other band backing the Redmonite party's Ancient Order of Hibernians. Many stories are told of "incidents" between the bands on Sunday parades, particularly during stormy election meetings, when the bands instruments were often used for more than making music. |
