Description

St Mary's Dispensary for Women and Children, founded in 1866 in Marylebone, London, by Elizabeth Garrett Anderson (1836-1917), the first woman to qualify as a doctor in Britain. (The dispensary was supported by some prominent philanthropists as patrons including Sir James Paget, Sir Spencer Wells and Mr Thornton Knowsley.)
