Summary

[edit]
Description Part of the choir (architecture), in St George's Church, Jesmond, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear, England. Showing the Lewis organ in its organ chamber, with two mosaic angels above the arch. This pipe organ played music at the Royal Mining Engineering Jubilee Exhibition in Newcastle in 1887, where it was exhibited along with Robert Beall's altar-reredos. Both were installed in this church in 1888, and J.M. Preston was the first appointed organist. Ralph Hedley, with Robson & Co., carved the four oak screens and choir stalls, in oak. In the foreground is a Glastonbury chair, one of a pair possibly used at the church's consecration.
