He bon in the illustrious family of musicians at Thirupapuliyurin Tamilnadu on 15th June, 1924. His father Vidwan Rajan Iyengar was a distinguished music artist and mother Smt.Rajalakshmi was a patron of music.

Description
English: Srirangam R. Kannan born on 15th June, 1924 in Thirupapuliyur in Tamilnadu. Belonging to a music family, he was initiated into music at an early age of eight years by his illustrious musician father Vidwan Rajan Iyengar. Unlike other children he did not spent his time for plays, entertainment instead he focused his full attention to acquire knowledge in music. This made to his father to leave him under the able guidance of Sangeet Kalanidhi Kumbakonam Rajamanickam Pillai, Musiri Subramanya Iyer, Valadi Krishna Iyer, Kalidoss Neelakanta Iyer and P.K.Rajagopal Iyer. He was an alumni of Teachers’ College of Music of the prestigious Music Academy of Madras. In his dedicated service of 40 years in Music he won admiration from music lovers. His performances were ably supported by the veteran violinists like Sangeet Kalanidhi Kumbakonam Rajamanickam Pillai, Sangeet Kalanidhi Marungapuri Gopala Krishna Iyer and Sangeet Kalanidhi Prof.T.N.Krishnan. Maestros in Mrudangam like Kumbakonam Rengu Iyengar, Palini Subramanya Pillai, Umayalapuram K.Sivaraman, Palghat R.Raghu have shared the stage with him for performance. He gave his first stage performance at a tender age of nineteen and thereafter he had never seen back.
