| Description |
English: A speedboat plying the Niagara River passes by the United Refining Company's Tonawanda Terminal, as seen from the passenger walkway of the South Grand Island Bridge on a May 2022 afternoon. In operation on the Tonawanda riverfront since 1937, the erstwhile Frontier Oil Refinery was the Buffalo area's second, with an initial capacity of about 2,600 barrels per day. By 1954, after a series of facility expansions as well as Frontier's merger with Ashland Oil Company, that capacity had multiplied by a factor of nearly ten. The refinery is operated today by United Refining Company of Warren, Pennsylvania, serving the Kwik Fill chain of fuel stations. |
