SPALDINGS OFFICIAL CRICKET GUIDE. Cricket in New York CRICKET IN NEW YORK FOR THE LAST TWENTYYEARS. By W. Fenwick. From a fairly intimate acquaintance with cricl^et and criclceters inNew York, I tbiuU I can safely say that the game lias improved consid-erably and risen in popular favor during the above period. The forma-tion of the Metropolitan District Cricket League over twenty years agohas, doubtless, contributed much towards this result. Lord Hawkebrought over his lirst English team in 1891 and met sixteen playingunder the auspices of the league. It included two live Lords (Hawkeand Throwley) and an •Honorable (Mills). The officials of the leaguenearly fell over each other in their endeavor to properly entertain theillustrious visitors, and having dined them at $12 a plate and thea-tered them as a preliminaiy, it may be safely inferred that they suc-ceeded. In this match Archie Brown, the well-known local batsman,made a memorable score, mainly by steering the expresses of S. M.
