Summary[edit]

Description

The south-western corner of the ancient wall around Jerusalem, now the site of Jerusalem University College. The Herodian-era stones (visible here as the lower two courses of the later, 19th century building) were taken from their original position and re-used here. The wall's foundations actually turned west near the doorway visible at left. The walls seem to have been in this position from the time of Hezekiah (8th century BCE) through to the city's destruction by the Romans (first in 70 CE and then definitively in 135 CE). The current "Old City" walls run further north on this southern end of the city.
